Carter grew up in New Hampshire and received a BA from St. Lawrence University where he was a scholar athlete. He is an avid golfer and fisherman and enjoys watching his kids compete on the athletic fields. He is married to Lindsay Rand McGuckin. They have two children and live in Darien.
